In the summer of 2021, everything changed. I became a first-time mom at 36, married my long-distance boyfriend of five years, and moved to a new country—all within three months. I was adjusting to a new home, a new marriage, and the beautiful chaos of motherhood. As much as I loved being a stay-at-home mom, I knew deep down that I wanted something more.
I wanted my own income.
I wanted to contribute to our household.
And I wanted to build something of my own—something flexible, impactful, and meaningful.
And what followed was a journey of trial, error, growth, and eventually, success. This is the story of how I built a sustainable business and landed my first £10K client in just 3 months—as a stay-at-home mom, with no income and no roadmap, but a lot of determination.
The Early Days: Hustling and Trying Everything
Like many new moms exploring ways to earn from home, I tried nearly everything:
Started selling baby clothes and household items on Vinted and Facebook Marketplace. I began with items my daughter outgrew, then moved on to things from my closet and eventually things I thrifted just to flip.
Created coconut milk bath soaks. I loved making them, but they didn’t sell.
Wrote a low-carb cookbook and self-published it through Amazon KDP—I sold just three copies.
I even enrolled in two popular online marketing courses. They were full of hype, but I didn’t make a single sale.
And I experimented with PLR (Private Label Rights products). I tried affiliate links. I kept showing up. But the needle wasn’t moving.
It wasn’t until early 2024 that things started to change.
A Simple Question That Changed Everything
One afternoon, my sister-in-law Angela casually asked me:
“Don’t you know how to build websites?”
That question changed the course of my entire career.
A small charity she knew needed help maintaining their WordPress site. I said yes. What started as a maintenance job quickly turned into a full redesign.
Suddenly, the dots connected. I could build websites. I enjoyed it. And there were people who needed that skill.
That’s when I decided to launch Virtually Keri.
March 2024: Officially Launching My Business
I launched Virtually Keri in March 2024 as a one-stop digital hub for SEO, social media, website design, and freelancer coaching.
Built my website, crafted my branding, started a blog, and began networking in Facebook groups. I showed up with value, answered questions, and shared tips to help other small businesses grow.
By May, I had my first two paying clients.
And by June, I closed my first £10K project.
From £57/Month to a £10K Client
One of my very first clients signed on for a £57/month support package. I treated them like a premium client from day one—responsive communication, proactive solutions, and honest guidance.
A few weeks later, they asked if I could help with a bigger project.
I listened, asked questions, and created a tailored proposal.
They upgraded their retainer and signed on for a £10,000 website + strategy project.
That moment was proof that how I built a sustainable business and landed my first £10K client in just 3 months was not luck—it was the result of showing up with intention, serving with value, and knowing my worth.
Here’s How I Did It
1. I Said Yes Before I Felt “Ready”
Imperfect action is still action. That first “yes” to the charity opened the doors to everything that followed.
2. I Built a Simple Website That Converted
I created a clean, user-friendly site that made it easy for people to understand what I do and how to work with me. (You can check it out here).
3. I Gave My Best to Small Projects
Even at £57/month, I provided top-level support. That small job turned into a £10K one because I delivered more than expected.
4. I Showed Up Online Consistently
I posted regularly on Facebook, Instagram, and Pinterest, shared my blog, and engaged in community groups to build visibility and trust.
5. I Used the Right Tools
I stayed organized and professional with tools like Moxie, Notion, Canva, and Stripe for invoicing and payments.
6. I Focused on Client Experience
I didn’t just deliver work—I listened, cared, followed up, and built relationships.
7. I Believed in What I Was Building
Even when I hadn’t made a sale in months, I showed up like the business I wanted to have. That mindset made all the difference.
