Freelancing offers flexibility, freedom, and the chance to build a business on your terms—but without structure, that flexibility can quickly turn into chaos. As a freelancer and mom, I’ve learned the hard way that a productive morning routine isn’t just helpful—it’s essential.
In this post, I’ll share the exact morning routine that keeps me grounded, focused, and productive—plus a free downloadable planner you can start using today.
Why Morning Routines Matter for Freelancers
When you work for yourself, every hour counts. A solid morning routine helps you:
- Start your day with intention
- Avoid decision fatigue
- Reduce stress
- Stay aligned with your goals
And no, you don’t have to wake up at 5 AM to be successful. What matters is consistency.
My Tried-and-Tested Morning Routine
Here’s what my weekday mornings look like:
1. Wake Up Before the Chaos
I wake up at 6:30 AM—before my daughter—to have quiet time. Even 20 minutes of stillness can set a calm tone for the entire day.
Tip: Start with a wake-up time that works for your current season of life and build from there.
2. Hydrate & Move
Before I even think about checking emails, I drink a glass of water and do a 10-minute stretch or walk. This small burst of movement wakes up my brain and body.

3. Mindset Work
This is a big one. I spend 10 minutes journaling or reading a few pages from a personal development book. I might use affirmations or write down goals I’m working toward.

4. Review My Plan for the Day
I don’t start my workday without reviewing my top 3 priorities using my Daily Focus Sheet from my productivity planner. It keeps me laser-focused on what actually matters.
